In the tradition of the Latin@/x diasporic celebration of 3 Kings. It is a day in celebration for honoring the lives of our communal children, who are the hope of our futures. This year we continue to center our 3 Kings Celebration on our mission of NURTURING LEADERS FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE, and invite our community to reflect on how leadership is something that all children have the power to be raised in from within them.
The Theme “Planting a Seed” invites our community to be welcomed into a conversation with our young people about what creates the opportunities for someone to be raised in the nature of leadership within them to use their gifts in service of our communities. As we will be devising this work during the progression of the 2024 Presidential Elections in the United States, we will have our young people move through workshops, conversations and creative art making spaces that will have them reflecting on what makes someone serve in their leadership centered on “Peace and Justice.”
We will pay homage to past leaders in People’s Movements, and look at the diversity of defining “leadership” to support young people to explore and reflect on leaders they recognize in their neighborhoods, their homes and within themselves.
They will also be supported to a greater understanding that if we are all raised in our gifts to lead, and that our community becomes stronger in their ability to collectivize power. We will explore the power of the ecology of Nature and how it survives as it can be used as metaphor for the ecology of our homes, neighborhoods and communities seeking to rise in the face of injustice that threatens our lives everyday.
This experience, like all of our 3 King experiences, will be framed through the eyes of the children and their connection to and understanding of leadership, echoing all the children who are seeking leadership around and within themselves to create a world that is rooted in justice, peace and that allows for the self determination of all life. In accepting ourselves as leaders we also accept our connection and accountability to each other and the future we hold together.
